How to use it
- Enter the price the item sold for and, if the buyer paid for shipping, that amount too.
- If the order came through an Offsite Ad, pick the ad option that matches your shop's size. Most orders don't.
- Read what you keep after all four fees, and the effective rate on the whole order.
- Switch the mode to work backwards from the amount you want to keep to the price you need to list at.
Worked example
A handmade candle sells for $35.00 with the buyer paying $5.00 shipping, not through an ad.
Order total is $40.00. Listing $0.20, transaction $40.00 × 6.5% = $2.60, processing $40.00 × 3% + $0.25 = $1.45. Total fees $4.25, 10.6% of the order. You keep $35.75, which covers the $5.00 label and leaves $30.75 on the candle.
Had the same order come through an Offsite Ad at 15%, another $6.00 would go to Etsy and you’d keep $29.75.
How this is calculated
Etsy charges four separate fees. The listing fee is a flat $0.20, taken when the item sells and the listing renews. The transaction fee is 6.5% of the order total, which is the item price plus the shipping the buyer paid. Payment processing for US sellers is 3% of the same total plus $0.25. If the sale came through Offsite Ads, a further 15% of the order total is charged, or 12% for shops that made $10,000 or more in the past year. Each fee is rounded to the cent on its own, and what you keep is the order total minus all of them. Reverse mode finds the smallest price that leaves you your target after every fee.

Frequently asked questions
Is the listing fee charged even if the item doesn't sell?
Yes. The $0.20 is charged when you create the listing, again each time it renews after four months, and again when a sale renews it automatically. A listing with a quantity of five sold in one order is charged $0.20 for each unit sold.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping and sales tax?
The transaction fee and the processing fee are both charged on the order total including shipping. Sales tax that Etsy collects is included in the processing fee's base, though not in the transaction fee's. On a $40 order to a buyer paying 7% tax that adds about eight cents.
Can I opt out of Offsite Ads?
Shops that made under $10,000 on Etsy in the last 365 days can turn Offsite Ads off in settings. Shops at or above $10,000 are enrolled permanently, but pay the reduced 12% rate, capped at $100 per order.
What about Etsy Ads inside Etsy?
Etsy Ads (the ones shown in Etsy search) are a daily budget you set, charged per click regardless of whether anything sells, so they don't fit a per-sale calculator. Track them monthly against the sales they produce.
Are there fees for Etsy Payments deposits or currency conversion?
Deposits to a US bank account are free. If your shop's listing currency differs from your payment account currency, Etsy charges 2.5% to convert.
